Police continue to investigate the death of a 58-year-old man who died in hospital on June 4th.

The victim returned home from a walk at Kits Beach on May 30th dazed and confused, suffering from what appeared to be a minor head injury. When asked about it, he couldn’t provide any details about what had transpired.

He remained at home to rest during the night, but was found unresponsive the following day. He was rushed to hospital where he underwent two surgeries to repair a life-threatening brain bleed. Unfortunately, he did not survive.

The case was turned over to the VPD Homicide Unit, who investigate all deaths where the cause is unknown.

Police conducted substantial canvasses at Kits Beach and the surrounding area, locating a number of witnesses, as well as video of the victim. It has provided investigators with some answers, but there are additional witnesses they would like to speak with.

Those witnesses include:

  • two women cyclists who, on or before May 30th, are believed to have helped the victim off of the road along West 1st Avenue near Yew Street
  • two Asian women who appear to speak with the victim and let him into his building on May 30th at 9:50 p.m.
  • a group of Asian men and women in their early 20s flying a drone in the area of Kits Beach near Cornwall and Yew Street and the parking lot

These individuals, who officers would like to speak with, are not suspects. It is believed they may have details that could piece together the remaining parts to this puzzle.
