For over 35 years, Vancouver citizens have been volunteering their time, providing an extra set of eyes and ears on Vancouver streets, as part of the VPD’s Community Crime Watch. They patrol in teams of two on Friday and Saturday nights, connected by radio to a radio operator and the constable in charge of the program.
The volunteers report any suspicious activity they see, often spotting stolen vehicles – they have helped recover over 4000 since 1994. Police are called, if needed, as volunteers do not actively get involved in harm’s way.
We have over 100 volunteer members, from all adult age groups and from all walks of life, who are making a positive contribution to fighting crime in our community.
