Although Vancouverites have experienced an overall decrease in crime over the last decade, property theft continues to be an issue in Vancouver. One of the best ways to help prevent becoming a victim is to keep a close eye on your belongings.

The most commonly stolen items include wallets, purses, and cell phones, as owners leave items unattended in libraries, coffee shops, night clubs, mall food courts, and parks.

The increase in online shopping has resulted in an increase in parcel theft. If you aren’t going to be home to receive a parcel delivery, consider an alternate shipping address, such as at work or at the home of a friend or neighbour, or have the package held for pick up.

Don’t make theft easy for thieves. If you’re not watching your belongings, someone else might be. Know where your bags, electronics and other valuables are to avoid becoming a victim of theft.
