Every person has a name, a story, and people who care about them. When someone remains unidentified after their death, it can leave families and loved ones searching for answers and unable to find closure.
The Vancouver Police Department is committed to identifying deceased persons whose identities are unknown. Our investigators work closely with the BC Coroners Service, forensic specialists, and partner agencies to gather information, follow leads, and reunite individuals with their names and histories.
The individuals featured on this page have not yet been identified. Information may include physical descriptors, clothing, personal belongings, tattoos, or other distinguishing characteristics that could assist in confirming their identity. Some of the compositive sketches are very life-like, but we have not shared any photographs of people.

On September 2, 1971, a deceased female was found on the CP Railway tracks in the 100 block of Water Street. It is believed she took her own life by laying her head across the railway track and waiting for a train to come. DNA is available.

The male was found wearing a buckskin jacket. He had multiple scars and abrasions over his elbows, forearms, hands, and lower extremities, as well as a 6 cm sutured surgical scar on the left side of the head, a sutured tracheostomy over the midline neck, and an 8 cm surgical scar on the left knee.
Details:
On November 6, 1971, a male was found unconscious in the Sunrise Hotel (previously Broadway Hotel Bar) and was taken to hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Autopsy reports revealed the male died of a fractured skull and subdural hematoma. The possible name of “John” was provided from an unknown source. The male was also believed to be possibly diabetic. Details:
On July 18, 1972, a caretaker at 55 Powell Street located a deceased male in one of the rooms. The male was not a resident of the building. It is believed that he died of a drug overdose. Witnesses in the building provided Emergency Health Services with the possible names “Tim Nettles” and “Les Edwards” however, database searches yielded negative results for both names. On June 1, 1977, a male was found deceased near the base of the Stone Bridge on Pipeline Road. He had shot himself using a newly purchased “over and under” combination rifle. It was confirmed through the serial number that the rifle was purchased five days prior at a Sears store in Gatineau (previously Hull), Quebec. The identification used to purchase the rifle was a Quebec Hospital Plan Card under the name of “Gina Gosa Fernando.” It is believed Fernando is not the deceased but rather knew who the deceased was.
