One woman is dead and one man is in custody after a stabbing in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.

Shortly after 12:00 p.m. today, an altercation occurred between two residents of a building at 215 Princess Street. A 55-year-old woman was stabbed and fled out the front door. She collapsed on the street and was taken to hospital, but later died of her injuries.

Police have arrested a 42-year-old man and will be recommending a charge of murder.

The victim and suspect live in separate suites in the building, and it is not clear if the two are known to each other. The motive for the attack has not been confirmed.
