A young woman who was allegedly assaulted outside a downtown nightclub early yesterday morning has not survived.

Shortly before 2:00 a.m., the victim was reportedly assaulted out front of the Caprice Nightclub on Granville Street. It is believed the assault occurred a few minutes after a brief altercation between the victim and two women inside the club. Staff at the club intervened to stop the physical attack on the victim and the two suspects fled from the area on foot.

About 30 minutes after the assault, police located and arrested two women believed to be the pair involved in the incident.

The 28-year-old woman who was taken to hospital in critical condition has not survived and was pronounced dead last night. Both suspects have been interviewed and released from custody pending further investigation and results of an autopsy.

This is Vancouver’s fifth homicide of 2016.

Anyone with information, or who observed the assault and has not yet spoken with police, is asked to contact the VPD Homicide Unit at 604-717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
