It was 3:00 in the morning on Malkin Avenue alongside Strathcona Park when a man was approached by three men asking to borrow his flashlight. When the man asked for his flashlight back moments later, one of the men allegedly pulled out a knife and slashed at him. He took off running, as the three men chased him. As he looked back, one of the men appeared to have a firearm and threatened him.
The victim managed to get away and call police, hiding while waiting for them to arrive. Responding officers saw two men sitting inside a vehicle, and a third man going in and out of a nearby tent. They all matched the victim’s description.
Despite considerable pushback from the residents of the park encampment, officers located a replica firearm, a knife, and multiple identity documents inside the vehicle, which were all seized.
The main suspect was arrested for possession of a firearm, possession of a dangerous weapon, and breaching conditions. The other two men were arrested for weapons possession and various breach conditions. They were all taken to jail.
