Vancouver – A man has been charged with aggravated assault following yesterday’s attack on a Vancouver Police officer in the Downtown Eastside.
Two VPD officers were on patrol near East Hastings and Columbia Street at about 8 a.m. July 30 when a man carrying a weapon approached their police car and struck an officer on his head through an open window. A VPD officer attempted to stop the attack by deploying a taser, but ultimately the suspect was subdued after shots were fired.
John Corey McKay, 52, has now been charged with one count of aggravated assault. He remains in hospital with injuries.
His next court appearance is August 3.
