A Vancouver Police investigation has led to charges against a man who allegedly committed a violent assault on two shopkeepers in Chinatown last week.
The victims – a married couple in their 70s – were working Thursday morning in their store when the suspect entered and began causing a disturbance. When they asked the suspect to leave, the victims were assaulted, suffering various injuries.
The suspect fled, however VPD officers obtained security images and began searching the area. On Saturday, officers patrolling the neighbourhood spotted the suspect near East Pender Street and Main Street. The suspect was arrested and taken to jail.
Wayne Ronald Northey, 50, has been charged with one count of assault and one count of assault causing bodily harm. He remains in custody.
