Vancouver Police are updating the case of the murdered woman found floating in the Fraser River near the 9100 block of Bentley Street on the evening of July  23rd.

Homicide investigators have established that the victim is a 41 year old sex trade worker who was living in the Downtown Eastside. Her name is being withheld at this time as efforts to locate next-of-kin are ongoing.

The VPD Missing Persons Unit received a missing persons report on July 17th from staff at the building where the woman lived after she failed to return home for several days. Investigators believe the woman was last seen on July 10th.

Subsequent police checks of area hospitals, social services agencies, and the surrounding neighbourhood failed to turn up any sign of the woman. Her body was then discovered at 7:45 p.m. on July 23rd by a man walking along the shore of the Fraser River.
