SUPERINTENDENT MIKE PORTEOUS
INVESTIGATION DIVISION
STATEMENT

It has taken more than a year of intensive investigation and the involvement of many police agencies to result in charges for the murder of Sandip Duhre.

We are extraditing a key participant in the public shooting of Sandip Duhre from Greece to face murder charges in Canada.

For the first time we are able to reveal his identity. His name is Rabih “Robby” Alkhalil, a 25 year old former resident of Montreal.

You may remember that on January 17th, 2012, Sandip Duhre was murdered at the downtown Vancouver Sheraton Wall Centre. The shooting occurred in a busy restaurant, which was occupied by innocent patrons and the Women’s National Cuban soccer team.

We believe this was a well-planned public execution involving a coordinated and deliberate effort to carry out the murder. We also believe it was a contract killing related to the ongoing Lower Mainland gang conflict.

Robby Alkhalil fled the country when a number of search warrants were executed by the Vancouver Police Homicide Unit following the murder. We believe he was working in concert with other suspects who were present and actively involved in the murder.

This investigation is not over.  We are pursuing charges against all the parties involved.
The success of this investigation is due in part to the cooperation of key material witnesses and associates of the suspects who are willing to come forth emboldened by the recent successes of law enforcement in these difficult cases.

This investigation was international in scope. We would like to begin by thanking the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Additional police agencies include the Surete du Quebec, Montreal Police Service, Ottawa Police Service, Toronto Police Service Homicide Unit, Niagara Police Service, the Greater Toronto Area Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit, and the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation.
