Two men are now charged in connection with the death of 19 year old Vancouver resident Manraj Akalirai.

At about 10:30 p.m. on January 23rd, police received a number of calls to 9-1-1 about people with weapons fighting on Elgin Street near East 47th Avenue.

When police arrived, they found a young man suffering from severe injuries. He was taken to hospital by ambulance where he was pronounced dead. The death was Vancouver’s first homicide of 2013.

Investigators quickly identified several persons of interest believed to be involved in the altercation between the two groups on Elgin Street.

On April 23rd, two men were arrested by the Vancouver Police in relation to Akalirai’s death.

Twenty year old Amritpal Dhillon has been charged with second degree murder and 18 year old Amritpaul Rakhra has been charged with manslaughter.

The pair, both from Vancouver, remains in custody until their next court appearance later today.
