On March 22, beginning at 8 a.m., law enforcement agencies around the world will connect via Twitter to participate in a 24-hour Tweet-a-thon to bring attention to their use of social media. Agencies will tweet using the same hashtag, #poltwt, to create awareness about police work and the issues that police face, as well as to promote the use of social media in policing.

The Vancouver Police Department will be participating in this first-ever global police Tweet-A-thon between 4 – 7 p.m. on Friday, March 22nd, with a special “Tweet the Traffic Sergeant.”

Sergeant Gord McGuinness of the Traffic Section, will join Constable Anne Longley, the VPD’s Social Media Officer, for three hours of traffic related comments, tips and questions. They look forward to using this special social media event to increase awareness of traffic-related issues and for the public to have their traffic questions answered.
