The Vancouver Police are investigating an afternoon collision that has resulted in the death of a pedestrian.

Around 4:30 this afternoon, a pedestrian was crossing Hastings Street, from the south to the north side, mid-block near Carrall Street when he was hit by a car that was travelling west on Hastings.

Tragically, the pedestrian, a man in his 60s, died at the scene. His identity has not been confirmed at this time.

The driver of the car remained at the scene and is cooperating with police.

The Collision Investigation Unit is on scene and Hastings Street will have significant traffic disruptions as a result of the incident.

The investigation is ongoing and alcohol and speed are not considered factors in the collision.

This is Vancouver’s 7th traffic related fatality of 2013.
