Vancouver Police have taken over a hazardous materials investigation, following a call earlier this morning.
Around 10:40 this morning, Vancouver Police responded to a call of a suspected hazardous substance at the Fraser Institute located in 1700 block of Burrard Street. When police arrived, they located two women that were exposed to the suspected hazardous substance found inside an envelope.
The Vancouver Fire and Rescue Hazardous Materials Team was called to the scene and determined that the substance likely consisted of an irritant and could be harmful.
Both women were decontaminated at the scene and were transported by paramedics to hospital for treatment for the exposure.
The Vancouver Police Major Crime Section will now be conducting an investigation into the origin of the substance and the intention of the sender.
