Two police officers have been treated in hospital, the result of a violent struggle following an attempted break-and-enter on Vancouver’s West Side.
Around 8:30 p.m. on March 27th, the officers responded to a report of an attempted break-in at a home on Ash Street near West 41st Avenue.
When they arrived, they found a man lurking in a laneway a block from the home. They approached to question him and an altercation ensued. The officers dodged punches as they attempted to control the suspected burglar. They were able to use less lethal means to gain control of him, and take him into custody.
The man continued to struggle, making efforts to harm himself. Paramedics were called and he was taken to hospital for treatment of a suspected drug-induced psychosis.
One officer suffered a broken finger; the second officer was treated for scrapes, bruises and potential bacterial exposure.
Twenty-seven year-old Christopher Kenneth Williams of Vancouver has been charged with residential break-and-enter and two counts of assaulting a police officer. He remains in police custody and his next court appearance has yet to be determined.
