The victim of a shooting in Yaletown remains in hospital in stable but critical condition recovering from gunshot wounds as police continue to investigate the brazen attack.

Shortly after 11:30 a.m., a 52 year-old man was out front of the Starbucks on Davie Street near Marinaside Crescent when he was approached and shot. Police officers happened to be nearby, challenged the alleged shooter and exchanged several shots.

The man fled on a bike along the sea wall being pursued by police. Dozens of officers flooded the area to locate the suspect. VPD officers on the sea wall at Science World were then confronted by the suspect, resulting in a second exchange of gunfire.

The suspect was shot by officers and taken into custody. Paramedics were called and he was taken to hospital in serious condition.

One officer sustained minor injuries from flying glass. She was treated at hospital and released.

The suspect also remains in hospital under police guard.

Police will not be providing information about the identity of the victim or the suspect at this time.
