Good Samaritans are being commended for their bravery after thwarting an attempted carjacking yesterday afternoon.

Shortly before 2 p.m., a woman was driving her car southbound on Main Street at East Broadway. As she stopped for a red light, a man jumped through her open passenger window and tried to grab the keys from the ignition. The woman fought the man off and she escaped from the car. Several people passing by pulled the man from the vehicle and held on to him until police arrived.

The victim, a 41-year-old Vancouver woman, suffered a minor bite to her arm and was treated at the scene by paramedics.

Twenty-four year-old Dustin Edward MacDonald of Burnaby has been charged with one count of robbery and one count of assault causing bodily harm.

MacDonald is known to police and has been held in custody pending his appearance in Provincial Court at 9:30 this morning.
