Update

Police continue to investigate a collision involving a bus that resulted in the death of a pedestrian.

Emergency crews were called to the scene shortly before 5:00 this evening after a pedestrian was struck by a school bus negotiating a left turn off of Oak Street to go westbound on Park Avenue. A 78-year-old woman was rushed to hospital with significant injuries, but unfortunately she did not survive.

There were no children on the bus. The driver remained at the scene and has been cooperative with officers.

The VPD Collision Investigation Unit will continue to examine the evidence, speak with witnesses and canvass for any potential video to assist in determining the cause and all of the factors involved.

This is Vancouver’s 11th collision this year that has resulted in a fatality. Four of those fatalities have been pedestrians.

Anyone with information about the collision, and has not yet spoken to police, is asked to contact the VPD at (604) 717-3012.
