Police are investigating an overnight fatal collision involving a pedestrian at East 6th Avenue and Keith Drive.

Shortly after 11 p.m., police responded to a collision on East 6th Avenue at Keith Drive. When officers arrived, they found a 51 year-old woman who had been struck by a vehicle. She was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

She later died in hospital.

The driver of the sport utility vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with the police investigation.

Police believe that the woman was crossing East 6th Avenue when she was hit by the SUV.

The darkness and wet weather likely contributed to the collision, speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision, who has not yet spoken to police, is asked to call the VPD Collision Investigation Unit at 604-717-3012.

This is Vancouver’s third traffic related fatality in 2015.
