A suspicious incident reported to police last week alleging that two people had attempted to lure a child has been determined to be unfounded.

Shortly after 1:00 p.m. on Friday June 5th, police were called to L’Ecole Anne Hebert Elementary School located on Killarney Street near East 56th Avenue. It was reported that a couple in a car had approached a group of kids near the playground. The initial circumstances lead police to believe that the two may have been trying to lure a six-year-old girl into the vehicle.

Police took the matter very seriously and quickly became involved in a very comprehensive investigation. A witness related to the original incident provided details that helped to identify and locate the vehicle and the pair involved.

After speaking with the two people identified, the incident has been determined to unfounded as there was no attempt to lure or abduct a child.

“The girls, witnesses, and school staff did everything right in this incident by getting the police involved immediately,” says VPD Constable Brian Montague. “Thankfully, there was no intent to do any harm, but this serves as a good reminder to talk with your children about what to do when approached by someone they don’t know.”
