Police have identified two men believed to be responsible for an alleged robbery of a vulnerable woman in Yaletown.

At about 3:30 p.m. on June 28th, a 71-year-old woman was approached from behind by a man and his accomplice in an ATM vestibule on Pacific Boulevard near Davie Street. The elderly woman, who is confined to a wheelchair, was allegedly forced to remove money from the bank machine and hand it over to the pair. Police were called and searched the area, but were not able to find the two suspects.

Fortunately, the victim was not injured in the robbery. She was understandably shaken, but was able to share some details about the incident. Additional information provided by other witnesses and video evidence located by police allowed the investigation to move forward quickly.

On July 2nd, police arrested a 27-year-old Vancouver man and charges of robbery have been laid. Charges have also been recommended against a second 27-year-old man who has not yet been located.

“This case is disturbing and disappointing to say the least,” says Constable Brian Montague. “Reducing violent crime, particularly those targeting the most vulnerable in our community, continues to be a priority for the VPD.”

As this case is now before the courts, there are no further details to share at this time.
