Investigators with the VPD are continuing to examine the circumstances of a collision that claimed the life of an elderly pedestrian.

At about 10:30 pm on January 21st, an 81-year-old man was crossing East Broadway mid-block between Main and Quebec Streets. He was struck by a car travelling westbound in the centre lane.

The pedestrian was rushed to hospital with serious injuries, but did not survive.

The 48-year-old man who was driving the vehicle remained at the scene and was cooperative with police. Weather conditions were poor at the time and likely played a role in the crash, but speed and alcohol are not believed to be contributing factors.

This is Vancouver’s first pedestrian fatality of 2016.
