The Vancouver Police Department is announcing the following Executive promotions:

 

Deputy Chief Constable Laurence Rankin

laurence-rankinDeputy Chief Constable Laurence Rankin has been a member of the Vancouver Police Department since 1987.

He has a master of arts degree in criminal justice and has completed the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police Executive Global Studies Program.

Deputy Chief Rankin has been assigned to numerous investigative positions throughout his career including the Domestic Violence & Criminal Harassment Unit, the Home Invasion Task Force, the Sex Crimes Unit, the Polygraph Unit, the Homicide Unit, and the Professional Standards Section. As an Inspector, he led the Integrated Riot Investigation Team and the General Investigation Section. He was also the Inspector in charge of the Major Crime Section and is a Provincially Accredited Team Commander for major case investigations. He was most recently the Superintendent of Personnel Services.

Deputy Chief Rankin sits on numerous local and provincial committees and working groups. He is the recipient of five VPD Commendations, including two Chief Constable’s Commendations. He and his wife, Robyn, have two sons.

 

Superintendent Cita Airth

cita-airthSuperintendent Cita Airth has been a member of the Vancouver Police Department since 1992.

Prior to joining the VPD, Superintendent Airth completed a diploma in civil engineering at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology.

As a constable, she worked in Patrol, Strike Force, General Investigations, Robbery / Assault and Homicide. Superintendent Airth was promoted to sergeant in 2007 where she led teams in Patrol, Sex Crimes and Homicide. In 2011, she was promoted to inspector and spent the next four years overseeing the Special Investigation Section. Since 2015, Superintendent Airth has been in charge of the Major Crime Section and is a Provincially Accredited Team Commander.

Superintendent Airth is currently completing her master of arts degree in leadership at Royal Roads University.

 

Superintendent Howard Chow

howard-chowSuperintendent Howard Chow has been a member of the Vancouver Police Department since 1989.

He has completed a number of operational assignments at various ranks throughout his career. He spent many years as a police dog handler and also completed a tenure as the VPD’s media spokesperson. He served on the Crowd Control Unit for 12 years, and returned as a Public Order Commander in 2013. While in the Recruiting Section, he was tasked with hiring over 200 members leading up to the 2010 Olympics. Superintendent Chow is currently the Inspector in charge of District Two.

Superintendent Chow has a bachelor of arts degree in criminology and is currently completing his master of arts degree in criminal justice at the University of the Fraser Valley.

Superintendent Chow is the recipient of six VPD commendations. He has been married to his wife, Angie, for over 20 years.
