Update

Vancouver Police continue to investigate a set of suspicious circumstances that resulted in a large police response downtown.

Shortly before noon, someone observed a foot behind the counter of a locked business on Robson near Hamilton Street and called 9-1-1.

When officers arrived, they observed a naked woman and one man walking around inside the shop. Neither appeared to be in distress.

The VPD and police negotiators attended and attempted to have them unlock and exit the store.

At about 1:00, two men were taken into custody exiting the rear of the business. The woman was reluctant to exit and appeared to be under the influence of drugs. Officers managed to take her into custody about five minutes after the two men.

During the incident, police spoke with a representative for the store over the phone. He indicated the store was closed and that no one was inside. However, he turned out to be one of the men who was eventually taken into custody and had been in the store while informing police the business was empty.

Although she had no visible injuries, the woman was taken to hospital to be looked at by a doctor. The two men were taken to jail to be interviewed.

It is still unclear if a crime was committed and investigators will interview all three people, as well as collect physical and forensic evidence to make that determination.
