Update: June 16, 2020

Police were compelled to act on a BC Supreme Court injunction obtained by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority in response to an unauthorized encampment on Port property near Crab Park.

Police arrived on site at about 6 a.m. today and are continuing to work with individual campers this morning to get them to abide by the court order. The VPD’s Indigenous Protocol Officer is also on site, providing support to VPD members and campers.

In recent days, campers had broken into an adjacent Port property that was locked and secured. This morning, police informed those campers that the break-in and their presence in that area could result in mischief charges. Officers are continuing to work with campers to vacate those secured areas as well.

One person was arrested this morning for mischief but released a short time later with no charges.

No additional information is available at this time. Updates will be provided later today.
