Around 1:00 this afternoon, a 72 year old Vancouver man was walking his pug in the area of Kitsilano Beach Park. The man and his dog were approached by a woman who was walking a pitbull.

After a brief introduction, the larger pitbull bit down on the neck of the smaller dog. The man and woman were unable to separate the dogs, and the owner of the pug ultimately put down the pitbull through the use of a folding knife he had in his possession.

Once separated, the pug was rushed to a veterinary hospital for stitches to its neck, and Animal Control attended for the pitbull.

The man and woman have both spoken to police and are cooperating with investigators.

Charges are not being considered at this time.
