Policing partners from across the region once again worked together to make the first night of the 2012 Celebration of Light a successful one.

Liquor enforcement and interdiction continued to be a focus for all police agencies in the region involved in the event. Officers had a very visible presence at SkyTrain and Canada Line stations in Surrey, Richmond, New Westminster, Vancouver, and throughout the downtown core, which resulted in hundreds of liquor pour-outs and seizures. The parents of a number of youth who were caught intoxicated or with liquor also received phone calls from police.

There were a few alcohol-related disturbances throughout the evening and as crowds cleared out of the downtown core following the event, but no incidents of note. Despite the amount of liquor, the event was overwhelmingly positive and family-oriented.
