An afternoon car-jacking on Kingsway Avenue caused traffic chaos after the stolen car being driven by the thief smashed into three parked cars and two buses.

Shortly after 4:00 this afternoon, a woman was forced into her car by an unknown man at Kingsway and Boundary Road. The man took off with the woman in the passenger seat, crashing into two cars and two buses. The stolen car finally stopped after smashing into a third car at Tyne Street and 50th Avenue.

After the collision, the man got out of the car and ran south on Tyne Street. The woman gave chase but lost the man a short distance away.

Police received a number of 9-1-1 calls and cars flooded the area in pursuit of the car thief. A K-9 Unit tracked the suspect but lost him after he made his way through a residential neighbourhood.

The victim, a 31 year old Burnaby woman, suffered an injury to her knee during the incident and was taken to hospital by paramedics where she was treated for her injuries.

Police are looking for a white man in his 30s, 5’8” tall, with a skinny build and a shaved head. He was wearing a striped cream-coloured shirt, black pants and possibly an orange or yellow jacket.
