Update

Vancouver Police are hunting for a man believed responsible for a violent assault of a sex trade worker.

At about 8:00 p.m. on March 4th, the man picked up a 42 year old woman in the Downtown Eastside. He drove to a secluded area where it is alleged that he beat her and tied her up.

Approximately 30 minutes later, police received several 9-1-1 calls when they observed a woman being dragged by a van on Clark Street near 13th Avenue. The woman had managed to partially free herself and, fearing for her life, had jumped from the moving van.

Police conducted an extensive search of the area, but were unable to locate the suspect or the van.

Police are looking for a white man with a tanned complexion, balding with a moustache or goatee and he may have an Australian accent. His van was described as a white panel van with roof racks.

The woman remains in hospital where she is recovering from a head injury and extensive abrasions.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information about this assault, the suspect or the van involved is asked to call the Vancouver Police Major Crime Section at (604) 717-2541 or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477.
