A simple ticket for a driver using his cell phone has resulted in police requesting criminal charges for the man.

Most drivers are aware that using a cell phone while driving is a pretty risky thing to do, but using a cell phone while driving when you have a large amount of drugs in your trunk is taking risk to a whole new level.

On March 4th, shortly before 4:00 p.m.,  officers with the Vancouver Police Traffic Section stopped the driver allegedly using his cell phone. While issuing him a ticket for the driving infraction, the officers detected a strong odour of marijuana coming from the car.

An investigation into the smell led officers to find more than a kilo of marijuana, a half kilo of mushrooms, 250 grams of hash and thousands of dollars in cash.

A 49 year old Vancouver resident is now facing possible charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking.
