Two serial bank robbers are now behind bars following a spate of seven bank robberies in one week.

Walter James Pitt’s alleged crime spree began on March 6th when a man was captured on video surveillance entering the Bank of Montreal on West Georgia and committing a robbery while implying he had a gun.

On March 7th, the man struck a second time, robbing the CIBC on East Broadway.

On March 11th, bank surveillance captured a man robbing a third bank, the CIBC located at 700 W. Georgia Street.

Later on March 11th, police finally caught a break when they saw the man enter the Bank of Montreal at 2501 Commercial Drive. He was arrested by police after he left the bank.

Pitt, a 51 year old Vancouver man, has now been charged with four counts of robbery and has been held in custody pending his next scheduled court appearance in Provincial Court on March 26th at 9:30 a.m.

Bernard Edward Innes allegedly began his crime spree on March 8th, when a man was caught on video surveillance robbing the TD Canada Trust on West Georgia Street. The man struck a second time on March 11th, when bank video showed him robbing the Royal Bank located on Kingsway Avenue in Burnaby. On March 14th, the suspect committed his final robbery at the Royal Bank located on W. Hastings. He was arrested by police a short distance from the bank.

Innes, a 27 year old Vancouver man, has now been charged with three counts of robbery and has been held in custody pending his next scheduled appearance in Provincial Court on March 22nd at 2:00 p.m.

Vancouver Police are currently investigating 21 bank robberies that have taken place in 2013 and historically solve approximately 90% of those cases.
