A high school music class is singing praises after a tech savvy student found stolen property with a GPS App and lead police to the thief.

On May 4th around 2:00 in the afternoon, a group of 20 Grade Ten music students from Nanaimo left their belongings in a cubicle and boarded the rollercoaster at the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE) expecting an adventure. When the girls got off the ride, the group noticed that their purses and bags that contained their wallets and cellular phones had been stolen.

One of the girls contacted security and police and used the GPS App on friend’s phone to track the stolen loot. Police were able to locate the phone and the thief, who was hiding in bushes in the 3000 block of East Hastings Street.

The police arrested the man without incident and returned the goods to the girls who were eagerly waiting back at the PNE.

Nineteen year old Carlos Monge of Vancouver has been charged with six counts of theft under $5,000 and has been held in custody pending his next court appearance on May 7th at 9:30 a.m.
