Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward following the suspicious death of an elderly Vancouver man.

Shortly after 7:00 a.m. on May 3rd, two men became involved in an altercation on McGill near Windermere Street. One of the men was allegedly pushed and fell to the ground. Paramedics arrived and spoke with the victim who was conscious and took him to hospital suffering from a head injury.

The man’s condition quickly deteriorated and he was pronounced dead in hospital.

The victim was identified as 80 year old Yee Wong of Vancouver.

Following the incident, police arrested and released a 45 year old Vancouver man in connection with Wong’s death.

Police now believe that there were witnesses to the altercation, possibly an off-duty firefighter, that have not yet spoken to police.

“It is important that detectives speak to these witnesses to get an accurate account of what happened to the victim,” says VPD spokesperson Randy Fincham.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Vancouver Police Major Crime Section at (604) 717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477.
