Vancouver Police are reminding the public to lock their windows and doors after police noticed a spike in residential break-and-enters that have been reported in the West End.
Since September 15th, there have been 18 reported break-ins through ground-level and second floor apartments, where it appears crooks have been getting in through unlocked windows and patio doors. This number is up from an average of two break-ins for the same time period.
The incidents have happened between 2:00 in the afternoon and 9:30 in the evening, and the thieves have been making off with laptops, cell phones and cash.
Police and the West End – Coal Harbour Community Policing Centre will be stepping up patrols in the West End in response to the break ins. Residents are asked to report suspicious people and activity immediately by calling 9-1-1.
Locking and securing windows and doors, in combination with other safety measures, will help make your home less attractive to thieves.
