The Vancouver Police Department has referred an incident to BC’s Independent Investigations Office (IIO) after a man sustained a serious injury.

Around 10:00 this morning, police and health services responded to an apartment on Cordova Street near Main after receiving information that a man was cutting himself with a knife.

When police arrived, they found a distraught man who subsequently stabbed himself in the neck. Officers utilized a bean bag round to momentarily distract him so they could restrain him. He was quickly attended to by paramedics and was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

As the investigation is ongoing, any further media inquiries should be directed to the IIO.
