The Tour de Coast and Tour de Valley Teams have clipped in to launch the 2014 Cops for Cancer Tours, aiming to bring community awareness to the devastating impact that cancer has on the lives of children and their families.

Cops for Cancer is an exciting annual event that takes place each fall, when over a hundred law enforcement and emergency services personnel from across the province brave all types of weather as they cycle for two weeks across the daunting terrain of Vancouver Island, Northern BC, the coast of British Columbia and the Fraser Valley. This year’s ride will take place September 17th to 25th.

The first Cops for Cancer program started in 1994 when an Edmonton police officer with a shaved head posed for a photograph with a young cancer patient. The officer wanted to support the boy, who was being ridiculed at school because of his hair loss. Other officers joined and Cops for Cancer was launched.

Since its inception on Vancouver Island in 1997, Cops for Cancer has expanded across the province into four incredibly successful tours, raising more than $32 million.

Donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society through Cops for Cancer are used to fund life-saving research and provide care and support to improve the quality of life for children and families battling the disease.
