A 59-year-old vulnerable man suffered life-altering injuries and remains in hospital after a robbery in his own home six months ago, and VPD investigators have now released photos from surveillance video footage of a person-of-interest in the case.

On November 11, 2014, at approximately 5:35 p.m., the victim was brutally assaulted in his East Vancouver apartment, suffering severe head and facial trauma, as he was beaten unconscious. The suspect stole several items from the apartment and fled undetected.

Investigators believe the attacker was responding to an advertisement on Craigslist, where the victim had posted a variety of items for sale. These items included inexpensive pieces of jewellery, but the ads were unclear and the suspect may have believed the jewellery was valuable.

The suspect is described as white, 25 to 30 years old, 5’9″, with a medium build, and wearing this very distinct clothing:

  • black baseball hat with green brim and yellow “DC” logo
  • dark jacket with grey hoody underneath
  • black track pants with thick white stripe down the side
  • white runners with black laces, carrying an empty brown bag

In addition to suspect photos, the Vancouver Police are taking a rare step to release a photo of the victim, who has consented to showing his photo for others to consider when they are buying and selling on-line.

Police would like to speak with the male depicted in the photo. Anyone with information about this attack, or who believes might know the identity of the suspect, is asked to call the VPD Robbery Unit at (604) 717 2541 or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477.
