Thanks to an overwhelming response from the public, the newest member of the VPD’s Mounted Unit, has a new name.

Police officers and civilian staff at the VPD stables narrowed the name selection to four possibilities and asked for help to make the final decision for the horse who will represent Vancouver while patrolling Stanley Park and areas of the West End.

The short list of names were:

  • Juno
  • Vimy
  • Justice
  • Mason

The online polling for the name took place over the last two weeks and the VPD received almost 4000 votes from people wanting to pick their favorite. The name Mason was by far the most popular – the horse’s original name when he was acquired by the VPD.

The winner of the visit to the VPD stables was randomly picked from all the voters who chose the name Mason. Alison Meek will be touring the VPD stables and meeting Mason sometime soon.
