When a man recently entered a drugstore at Davie and Thurlow, an alert security guard noticed he was acting suspiciously. As the guard approached him, the man pulled out a can of bear spray.

The loss prevention officer notified his store manager and called 9-1-1. The suspect then grabbed a foot massager and brazenly walked out of the store without paying.

Undeterred by the threat of bear spray, the guard was right behind him, confronting him outside the store. The suspect sprayed him in the face with bear spray and fled. Still the guard tenaciously persevered, observing the thief from a distance. He was met with bear spray in the face a second time moments later. This time, the suspect threw the foot massager to the ground before he took off.

Police arrived and spoke with witnesses in the area. They located the suspect, who still had the can of bear spray in his hand. When officers challenged him, he dropped the bear spray. He was arrested for robbery and failure to comply with a release order.
