Growing violence in Grandview Park has been a concern for the Vancouver Police this week as officers responded to multiple disturbance calls in one day and resulted in an assault against one of the officers.

While officers were in the park yesterday evening investigating a prior assault, an intoxicated and verbally aggressive man entered the park and began taunting patrons of the park to fight.  The man also was yelling anti-police profanities. The man was uncooperative with officers. He resisted arrest and ended up striking one of the officers in the head three times with his elbow.

“Grandview Park has been the centre of many issues and currently is a special attention for police due to the increased violence and open alcohol consumption,” says Constable Tania Visintin, VPD.  “On the date of this incident, police had responded to the park three separate times for fights and disturbances.”

The 37-year-old man was arrested for assaulting a police officer.  Charges have been recommended to Crown counsel.

Police are reminding the public to call 9-1-1 if they are a victim or witness to a crime.
