As a driver and passenger got out of their ride-share vehicle after parking near Pender and Carrall, a man allegedly ran up behind them and jumped in the driver’s seat. After a brief struggle, the man was able to drive off westbound on Pender Street.

Police were called and met with the pair, who gave a description of the suspect and the licence plate of the vehicle, which was seen shortly after. Officers boxed the vehicle in at McGill and Renfrew and arrested the driver.

The driver was prohibited from driving Canada-wide and had a condition of his probation not to be found in the driver’s seat of any motor vehicle. Police recommended charges of theft of motor vehicle, fail to comply with a probation order, operation of conveyance while prohibited, driving while prohibited, and driving while licence is suspended.
