A 31-year-old Vancouver man was charged with assault this weekend after he allegedly shoved a senior who refused to buy him cigarettes.

Vancouver Police arrested the suspect Saturday afternoon outside a convenience store near Pacific Boulevard and Davie Street. The victim, a 71-year-old Yaletown resident, was heading to the corner store for lottery tickets when a man asked him to buy cigarettes. When the senior refused, the suspect allegedly followed him into the store and shoved him against a display case, causing the senior to fall to the ground and cut his elbow.

VPD officers were close by and arrested the suspect before he left the area. He has been charged with assault.
