Vancouver – A robbery suspect has been arrested and charged with multiple criminal offences following a violent assault on a retail worker in South Vancouver yesterday.
VPD arrested the suspect just before 3 p.m. Wednesday, after responding to a 9-1-1 call from a business near Marine Drive and Ontario Street.
Police believe a man entered the store around 2:45 p.m. and attempted to steal several hundred dollars in merchandise, including a metal baseball bat. When a staff member attempted to stop him, the suspect allegedly struck the worker multiple times with the bat.
The suspect fled, but was chased by other staff members, who were also allegedly assaulted. Witnesses helped police take the suspect into custody.
The retail worker sustained serious injuries to the head and face, which required medical attention. He was taken to hospital by ambulance.
Daniel Brandon Samuel Valleau, 30, has been charged with:
- Robbery
- Assault
- Assault with a weapon x 2
- Assault causing bodily harm
- Breach of release order
He remains in custody, pending a bail hearing.
