Vancouver – A 39-year-old Vancouver man has pled guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to jail following a VPD investigation into a 2018 homicide in the Downtown Eastside.
Benny Rae Armstrong received a five-year jail sentence this week for the stabbing death of 26-year-old Abeal Negussie Abera, near West Hastings and Abbott Street on June 23, 2018.
Armstrong was credited with 740 days for the time he spent in custody before he was sentenced, and will serve an additional 1,085 days. The court also imposed a 10-year firearms prohibition.
Armstrong was arrested in 2024, following a six-year Vancouver Police Homicide Unit investigation.
