Vancouver – Vancouver Police are notifying the public that Tyler Gordon Strathdee, a dangerous offender with a history of violence and sexual assault, has been released from custody and is living at a halfway house in the city.
Vancouver Police believe Strathdee poses significant risk of harm and is a high risk to commit further physical and sexual violence.
Strathdee is serving an 11-year, two-month jail sentence for multiple violent offences committed in Alberta, including robbery, assault with a weapon, sexual assault, and manslaughter. Although his sentence expires in 2028, he has obtained statutory release, allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence in the community, with certain conditions.
Vancouver Police previously issued a public warning about Strathdee in December 2024, when he obtained statutory release in Alberta and chose to reside at a halfway house in Vancouver. He was re-arrested in February 2025 and later charged with robbery, but was acquitted following a trial in BC Provincial Court.
The Vancouver Police Department was notified today that Strathdee has again obtained statutory release and is again living in Vancouver.
The conditions of Strathdee’s statutory release include:
- Not to consume alcohol or drugs
- Not to associate or communicate with anyone involved in criminal activity and/or substance misuse
- Not to be in the presence of sex-trade workers
- Report all sexual and non-sexual relationship and friendships with females to a parole supervisor
Investigators from VPD’s High Risk Offender Unit will work with Correctional Service Canada to monitor Strathdee, and ask anyone who observes him breaching his release conditions to contact police immediately.
