A woman has been charged in the alleged stabbing of a stranger in the Downtown Eastside, following an arrest by Vancouver Police early Sunday morning.
A VPD officer patrolling near Hastings and Abbott streets was flagged over around 2:50 a.m. on January 18 by a group of people reporting their friend had just been assaulted by a stranger, who allegedly used a knife to slash the victim’s shoulder.
The officer arrested the suspect following a brief foot pursuit and taser deployment.
The victim, a 31-year-old man, was treated in hospital and is recovering.
Heather Pitsanuk, 29, has been charged with one count of assault with a weapon and one count of assault causing bodily harm.
Pitsanuk was wanted Canada-wide for breach of parole, and B.C.-wide for failure to comply with a probation order, at the time of her arrest.
She remains in custody.
