Vancouver – Charges have been approved after a woman was allegedly sexually assaulted in downtown Vancouver.

 At 7:20 p.m. on March 25, the VPD was called to Granville Street between Dunsmuir and Pender, where a woman reported she had been groped by a stranger. Witnesses also reported the suspect had randomly assaulted other people on the street. Upon arrival, police located the suspect and arrested him.

Derek Jason Sangris, 47, is charged with one count of sexual assault and unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon. Sangris is being held in custody until his next court appearance on April 10. Further investigation into the incident is being conducted by the Special Investigation Section.
