These are the official Terms of Use for the Vancouver Police Department’s (VPD) social media accounts. Accounts are not monitored 24 hours a day and should not be used to report crime.  For more information about reporting a crime, please visit https://vpd.ca/report-a-crime/.

The VPD encourages healthy conversation that is conducted in a safe and respectful manner. Users engaging with the VPD’s social media pages agree to the following:

  • Understand that all content is subject to public disclosure
  • Understand that comments posted by others are not to be considered the opinion of the VPD or the Vancouver Police Board, nor do they imply endorsement of, or agreement by, the VPD or the Vancouver Police Board

The VPD acknowledges that the city of Vancouver is a diverse community and, as such, the VPD’s social media channels are inclusive to all. Comments/posts must not contain any inappropriate content, including:

  • Content that promotes, fosters, or perpetuates discrimination on the basis of race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, marital status, family status, genetic characteristics, disability, and conviction for an offence for which a pardon has been granted or in respect of which a record suspension has been ordered
  • Offensive, profane or pornographic content and/or language
  • Hate speech, personal attacks, or content that incites violence
  • Threats or harassing behaviour to any person or organization
  • Repetitive or false/misleading content
  • Content that contains personal information such as phone numbers, addresses, email addresses or personal history
  • Content posted in an unrelated topic
  • Content that may reasonably interfere with, inhibit, or compromise law enforcement investigations, police tactics, police responses to incidents, and/or the safety of the public
  • Content that contains external links
  • Content in support of, or opposition to, any political campaigns

The VPD reserves the right to delete content and/or block users, without prior notice, for non-compliance with the VPD’s Terms of Use.
