Vancouver Police are investigating a fatal collision after a car hit a light pole late last night.

Around 12:30 a.m., a car was travelling south on Cambie Street from West 33rd Avenue when it veered off the road and struck a light pole. The collision resulted in extensive damage to the passenger side of the car. Tragically, the front passenger, a 26 year old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The name of the deceased is not being released as the family has not yet been notified.

The 26 year old driver of the car was taken to hospital with minor injuries and is cooperating with police. It is early in the investigation but police believe that speed may have been a factor in the crash.
